Specialized Pediatric Transport Services
Our specialized pediatric transport team was the first of its kind in West Virginia. On average, the team transports 450 children who require a level of care that isn't available at their local medical facilities to the Hoops Family Children's Hospital (HFCH) each year. To maintain the highest standard of care, all transport team members are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and trained in other advanced life-saving skills for pediatric patients.
Pediatric intensivists are in continuous contact with the sending hospital and the transport team, monitoring the patient's status and care, and ready to offer their expertise if there is a sudden change. Upon arrival at HFCH, the pediatric intensivists consult other pediatric specialists as necessary to provide the most appropriate care.
Research consistently suggests that outcomes for critically ill children are better when they are transported by a specialized pediatric team rather than a nonspecialized team. The Pediatric Transport Team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
