Specialized Transport Services

Medical transportation of children over substantial distances involves distinct challenges and requires specially trained teams of health care professionals. The Hoops Family Children's Hospital (HFCH) Specialty Transport Teams provide a state-of-the-art mobile intensive care unit for transport of critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients.

Our specialized pediatric transport team was the first of its kind in West Virginia. On average, the team transports 450 children who require a level of care that isn't available at their local medical facilities to HFCH each year.

To maintain the highest standard of care, all transport team members are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and trained in other advanced life-saving skills for pediatric patients.

Research consistently suggests that outcomes for critically ill children are better when they are transported by a specialized neonatal or pediatric team rather than a nonspecialized team. The neonatal and pediatric transport teams are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
