Akers Named Vice President of Operations for Cabell Huntington Hospital and Hoops Family Children’s Hospital

Marshall Health Network (MHN) has named Melanie Akers, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, vice president of operations for Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) and Hoops Family Children’s Hospital (HFCH).
This newly established role provides oversight of day-to-day operations and operational efficiencies across CHH and HFCH. Akers will lead ancillary and clinical support services, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, respiratory care, dialysis, cardiology, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, as well as operations for Hoops Family Children’s Hospital and The Maternity Center. Her leadership will focus on ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care while aligning operational performance with MHN’s strategic goals.

Akers has more than 25 years of health care experience, including 15 years of progressive health care leadership with roles such as director of Hoops Family Children’s Hospital and director of The Maternity Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital, nurse manager of pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at HFCH, and most recently VP of Women’s & Children’s for MHN.
She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Business Administration from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware, and her Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marshall University. Akers holds a Nurse Executive Advanced Board Certification (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
