Marshall Health Network to host period education workshop

Menstrual health experts from Marshall Health Network will lead a free workshop on period education at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Mary’s Center for Education, 2853 Fifth Ave. in Huntington.

As part of the Period Education Project, medical students from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will lead discussions designed specifically for young adolescent females ages 9 to 13 who are just entering puberty. Marshall Health Network's pediatric-adolescent gynecologist, Jennie Yoost, M.D., professor at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, will also be available to answer questions.

This engaging, interactive discussion will cover female reproductive anatomy, the menstrual cycle, what to expect with normal and abnormal periods, and safe, reliable options for period management. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend with their children.

The Period Education Project is a national initiative that partners with dozens of medical schools to improve menstrual health and to better deal with issues such as affording period supplies or lack of education on menstruation for underserved youth.
